Why should I take this course?

Typically, there are three reasons why drivers participate in this course: You received a traffic ticket, the Court has required you to take an 8-hour traffic violator course or you want an insurance premium reduction.

When you are involved in a traffic collision or commit a traffic violation, these incidents are assigned "points". In some instances, you may be assigned points if you are involved in a collision, even if the collision wasn't your fault! The general premise is that the more severe the violation, the higher the point count. Eventually, if you keep accumulating points, you may be punished with a fine or worst, you may lose your driving privilege. Please keep in mind that there may be limitations as to how many points this course can remove from your record. Additionally, please verify your eligibility before beginning this course.

Insurance premium reduction

My Insurance company told me to take a defensive driving course. Once I show proof of completion, I get a reduction in my insurance premiums. Great! Not only will this make you a safer driver, it will put a little money back into your pocket. Typically, insurance discounts are good for three years. Make sure you check with your insurance agent for eligibility requirements before you begin this course.

How do I know if my Court will accept this Traffic School program?

Most Courts in California have approved this Traffic School for use and you will see our program listed on the list of approved home study programs given to you by the Court. If you are eligible for traffic school and your court has given you the option of a "home study program", then your citation will be dismissed as soon as that court receives your completion certificate. This course replaces the 8-hour walk-in traffic school requirement.
Pursuant to Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the court may not order or permit a person who holds a class A, class B, or "commercial" class C driver's license (NOT A STANDARD CLASS C DRIVER'S LICENSE) to complete a licensed traffic violator school, a licensed driving school, or any other court-approved program of driving instruction in lieu of adjudicating any traffic offense committed by the holder of a class A, class B, or commercial class C driver's license.
Please check with your Court if you are unsure of our approval.
Every court has different requirements. Selecting the wrong court may result in improper processing of your certificate of completion which may result in an unnecessary delay or a mistake while routing your certificate. This may result in additional fines or fees, which you will be responsible for. If you are uncertain which court to select call the court to verify which one you received your citation from. Here is a Court Link you may check out: http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/trial/courtlist.htm

I heard something about identity verification, what is that?

Identity verification is required in the following counties only:

  • Alameda (all students)
  • Kern County (Out of state students exempt)
  • Kings County (Out of state students exempt)
  • Madera (all students)
  • San Bernardino County (Out of state students exempt and
residents of Joshua Tree exempt - certificate will be sent to address in Joshua Tree
    )
  • San Diego County (all students)

Remember: All home study programs approved in those counties MUST require your identity be verified so if they're telling you something different It is suggested that you call and ask the court.

Identity verification is a procedure whereupon you as the student are required to prove your identity. This Traffic School offers two options for identity verification.

OPTION 1: Online Identity Verification (EXPERIAN) - Fee $9.00 (Includes certificate of completion)

(Teens, Workbook Students or Students with no credit history will not be able to use this option. Individuals with security blocks on their credit file must temporarily remove the security block before the online ID verification process can be completed IF POSSIBLE) This does not mean owning a credit card, this is a soft hit on your (credit report) obtaining credit "history", where your name is on ownership of vehicles, homes, etc. Do not omit more than what they require (middle initial or name). They will fail you! Double check all your information before submitting it to Experian for errors, because if they cannot obtain your credit history, they will fail you!

To choose this option, simply select the "Online ID Verification" option after you have selected the court district your ticket/citation was issued in. When you are ready to begin the Final Exam you will be prompted and directed to the Experian website to verify your identity. You will be given the opportunity to verify specific credit information using your own credit history.
Important Note: At no time does the Traffic School have access to any of your credit information, nor is it responsible for failure of identity verification. On the Experian site you will be given a selection of three to six questions for verification. If you fail a question an alternate question may be given, however, if a second question is failed you will have failed the ID Verification process and the Traffic School will be notified. You will be given 5 minutes to answer questions before an incorrect answer is registered. If you fail the the ID Verification process you are welcome to try again for an additional fee of $9.00. Whether you pass or fail the results will be immediately relayed to the Traffic School. The $9.00 fee will be collected whether you pass or fail.
Your ID verification is terminated/expired because you opened a new session / Back browsed (BACK ARROW)  and logged back in after completing the ID verification process and before completing the final exam and submitting it for grading. You cannot navigate away from the page once you have been verified, you must take the final exam immediatly. (This session is timed to prevent cheating).
If you successfully pass the ID verification process you will be able to complete the Final Exam online, otherwise you will have to complete the Notary Public process for ID verification.(See option 2)
WE ARE NOT EXPERIAN IF YOU HAVE CREDIT BLOCKS OF ANY KIND ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT, IT IS YOUR RESPONSABILITY TO TEMPORARILY REMOVE THEM (IF POSSIBLE) IN ORDER TO UTILIZE THE ONLINE ID VERIFICATION PROCESS THROUGH EXPERIAN. OTHERWISE THEY CANNOT OBTAIN YOUR CREDIT HISTORY, AND WILL FAIL YOU. CHARGES CANNOT BE REFUNDED BY THE TRAFFIC SCHOOL.

OPTION 2: In-Person Notary Public - Fee up to $10.00 max (Includes certificate of completion)

To choose this option, simply select the "In-Person ID Verification" option after you have selected the court district your ticket/citation was issued in. With this option you will be required to print out the Final Exam, Answer Sheet and Notary Verification form and take all the printed documentation, or the workbook if you are a workbook student, to a Notary of your choice. You will then have to show a valid picture ID to the notary and while the notary completes the form you must complete the final exam in the their presence. After you complete the final exam you will then need to fax the final exam answer sheet and the completed Identity Verification form with the notary's signature and notary stamp to the Traffic School for grading and processing.

Where can I find a Notary Public?

Notaries can be found in any city throughout the State. They're in Mailbox Ect., Fedex Kinko's, Postal Annexes, UPS stores etc. after you have finished taking the final exam you can fax the final exam answer sheet, and completed notary form from these facilities which makes it very convenient for you as the student.

Will there be an additional cost for the Notary?

There may be an additional cost depending on where you find your notary. Many banks, and insurance companies will provide notary services free of charge. Otherwise notaries are limited to charging $10.00 per signature. (Remember: mobile notaries may charge for mileage and/or travel time). All additional fees, if any are the responsibility of the student.

What is the Final Exam like?

Remember: The final examination is essentially a course review and you should not have any problems passing with a score of 80% or higher . In the unlikely event that you do not pass the first time, you may retake the exam as many times as necessary at no additional charge from us. If you are completing the exam in the presence of a Notary, keep in mind that the notary may charge more for each additional signature required.

What happens after I complete the Final Exam?

If you pass, and complete your final exam, prior to 2PM PST Monday thru Friday. Your certificate of completion will be printed, and mailed that same day. If you complete after 2pm PST on Friday, your certificate will not be processed until the following Monday.

If you chose In Person ID Verification, you can either fax, or mail (if you have the time ) your completed final exam answer sheet along with the completed, and signed notary verification form to the Traffic School. Our staff will grade your exam, and if you have passed your final your certificate of completion will be printed, and mailed that same day, if completed prior to 2PM PST Monday thru Friday. If after 2PM PST on Friday your certificate will not be processed until the following Monday.
