When can I take traffic school?
You can take a traffic school once every eighteen months for one traffic violation in one county, court or jurisdiction with the court's permission. You cannot take traffic school for some traffic violations such as: DUI's, manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, leaving the scene of an accident with injures, etc. The DMV and the court will now check your driving record to determine if you have already taken a traffic school for a violation any other county, court or jurisdiction within an eighteen month period before giving you permission to take a traffic school.

As of July 1, 2011 your first traffic violation within an eighteen month period will not be dismissed, it will show as a ( Conviction-masked ) and will be masked on your record with no points on your drivers license record. Any other violations during the eighteen month period in any county, court or other jurisdiction will show as a conviction with points on your drivers license record. Which may increase your insurance premium.

Masking of Citations on your DMV record-
There are certain exemptions to having your citation masked on your driving record that you should be aware of prior to completing this traffic school. Your citation will not be masked in the following situations:

a. A driver who has already attended a traffic violator school course within the last 18 months would not be eligible to have their violation masked on their record

b. A driver who holds a commercial driver license would not be eligible to have his or her violation masked on their record.

c. A driver who holds a commercial driver license from another state would not be eligible to have their violation masked on their record (These prohibitions are authorized under Vehicle Code section 42005 (b) and comply with Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations.)

CVC 43005 (b) Pursuant to Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the court may not order or permit a person who holds a class A, class B, or commercial class C driver's license to complete a licensed traffic violator school, in lieu of adjudicating any traffic offense or order that a conviction of a traffic offense by a person holding a class A, class B, or commercial class C driver's license be kept confidential.

d. Pursuant to CVC 41501, a driver who has not paid a deposit of fees or bail, and has not pled guilty or no contest, or has not been convicted by the court of jurisdiction would not be eligible to have his or her violation masked on their record.

e. Pursuant to CVC 42205(c)(2), a driver who has a conviction which would result in a point count of more than one point on the record would not be eligible to have their violation masked on their record

Note: If you have a Class A, B, or Commerical C drivers license (trucker) you cannot take a traffic school for any traffic violation even if you are driving
your personal vehicle after work hours.

This may result in additional fines or fees, which you will be responsible for. If you are uncertain which court to select call the court to verify which one you received your citation from. I heard something about identity verification, what is that?

Identity verification is required in the following counties only at this time:
Alameda(all students No exceptions)
El Dorado (all students No exceptions)
Kern County (all students No exceptions)
Kings County (all students No exceptions)
Humboldt (all students No exceptions)
Madera (all students No exceptions)
Merced ( all students No exceptions)
Sacramento (all students No exceptions)
San Bernardino County (all students No exceptions)
San Diego County (all students No exceptions)
Santa Barbara (all students No exceptions)
Stanislaus (all students No exceptions)
Tulare (all students No exceptions)
Tuolumne (all students No exceptions)
Orange (all students No exceptions)

Remember: All home study programs approved in those counties MUST require your identity be verified so if they're telling you something different It is suggested that you call and ask the court.

OPTION 1: Online Identity Verification (Idology) - Fee $9.00 (Includes certificate of completion with course payment)
A small percentage of users may not receive confirmation of identity when utilizing this method due to the lack of information contained within the ID Verification database, through IDOLOGY. Some issues, but not all, that may result in FAILURE may be; the user's lack of history, Example: (recently moved out of parents house), (still living at parents, going to college, or in military), (less than two years employed), incorrect information provided by the user, user is a teenager, and possibly up to age 25. (if you do not have adequate address history, (at least two years at your own home address), purchase history (VEHICLE IN YOUR NAME), (New to the U.S.) or other identifying history DO NOT attempt to use this id verification process). If you have recently moved, and have lived at your new address less than 1 yr., it is advised to enter your previous address if you lived there more than 2 yrs. The ID verification company that we contract with is approved by the Courts and is utilized by most of the home study traffic schools. We have no access to your personal data and are not affiliated with the third party database authentication company; we simply pay them to verify our students whether you pass or fail.

To choose this option, simply select the "Online ID Verification" option after you have selected the court district your ticket/citation was issued in. When you are ready to begin the Final Exam you will be prompted and directed to the Idology website to verify your identity.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO ENTER YOUR BIRTH DATE AS FOLLOWS 00/0000 ON IDOLOGY WEBSITE. This is what seperates you from other students with the same or simular name. It is important that if you entered a PO Box when you registered to the Traffic School that when you ENTER IDOLOGY WEBSITE TO CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS TO YOUR PHYSICAL ADDRESS AT THIS TIME. YOU WILL HAVE MORE HISTORY DATA THAT MAY BE OBTAINED BY IDOLOGY BY DOING SO. This will not effect your address where your certificate of completion is being mailed or electronically sent by (SCSM) System to the court, or by the Traffic School.
Your ID verification will be terminated/expired if you open a new session / Back browse (BACK ARROW) until the login window comes up, or logged back in after completing the ID verification process and before completing the final exam and submitting it for grading. You cannot navigate away from the page once you have been verified, you must take the final exam immediatly. (This session is timed to prevent cheating).

Important Note: At no time does the Traffic School have access to any of your answers, nor is it responsible for failure of identity verification. On the Idology site you will be given a selection of three to six questions for verification. If you fail a question an alternate question may be given, however, if a third question is failed you will have failed the ID Verification process and the Traffic School will be notified. If you fail the the ID Verification process you are welcome to try again for an additional fee of $9.00. The $9.00 fee will be collected whether you pass or fail.

If you successfully pass the ID verification process you will be able to complete the Final Exam online, otherwise you will have to complete the Notary Public process for ID verification.(See option 2 below)

OPTION 2: In-Person Notary Public - Fee up to $10.00 max (Includes certificate of completion)
To choose this option, simply select the "In-Person ID Verification" option after you have selected the court district your ticket/citation was issued in. With this option you will be required to print out the Final Exam, Answer Sheet and Notary Verification form and take all the printed documentation, or the workbook if you are a workbook student, to a Notary of your choice. You will then have to show a valid picture ID to the notary and while the notary completes the form you must complete the final exam in the their presence. After you complete the final exam you will then need to fax the final exam answer sheet and the completed Identity Verification form with the notary's signature and notary stamp to the Traffic School for grading and processing.

Where can I find a Notary Public?
Notaries can be found in any city throughout the State. They're in Mailbox Ect., Fedex Kinko's, Postal Annexes, UPS stores etc. after you have finished taking the final exam you can fax the final exam answer sheet, and completed notary form from these facilities which makes it very convenient for you as the student.

Will there be an additional cost for the Notary?
There may be an additional cost depending on where you find your notary. Many banks, and insurance companies will provide notary services free of charge. Otherwise notaries are limited to charging $10.00 per signature. (Remember: mobile notaries may charge for mileage and/or travel time). All additional fees, if any are the responsibility of the student.

What is the Final Exam like?
Remember: The final examination is essentially a course review and you should not have any problems passing with a score of 80% or higher . In the unlikely event that you do not pass the first time, you may retake the exam as many times as necessary at no additional charge from us. If you are completing the exam in the presence of a Notary, keep in mind that the notary may charge more for each additional signature required.
